When setting up your direct deposit with ADP, your account may need to go through several "pre-note" cycles. These are small amounts of up to a couple of dollars to ensure that your account is valid.
What Did My Prenote Fail?
There are three reasons a prenote might fail:
- ADP could not validate your bank account. You will be prompted to correct your account information and the cycle will begin again.
- If your account was once valid and now your payment is suddenly being rejected, you have likely closed your account, or your account is frozen. Please reach out to your bank institution for clarification.
- Your bank info may not be up-to-date. Please login to ADP and update your account with your updated bank information. Please contact Swing at email@example.com so we can issue your payment in either a check or pay card.

What is a prenote?
A prenote is a test to validate the employee's bank account information. Prenotes are sent from ADP to the employee's bank account and verified before direct deposit payroll can be processed.
A prenote test transaction gets sent to the bank to make sure that the provided employee account information is valid before setting up a direct deposit transfer to pay the employee.
