What Is “Swing Heroes”?

Swing Heroes requests are open requests posted up to 14 days in advance of the request date, allowing you to plan your subbing schedule ahead of time and get guaranteed pay for that day.

These requests will be posted with a yellow “Swing Heroes” flag and differ from standard requests in that when you sign up, you won’t be able to see full request details immediately. Instead, you’ll see:

  • The date of the request (this does not change)
  • The minimum pay
  • Location is listed as “A school near you”
  • K-12 grade range
    • Swing Heroes requests are best suited for subs who are comfortable teaching any possible grade range. Also remember teachers often leave lesson plans for subs, understanding the sub may not be an expert in their particular subject.

When you sign up for a Swing Heroes request, you are committing to being available to teach on the date of the request. You will receive the full details of the school’s request typically between 1-12 hours of the assignment start time, but no later than 9:30 a.m. on the day of.

And if there’s no assignment available for you by 9:30 a.m.? Then you get paid anyway!

That said, it’s important to commit to all the requests you sign up for. Before signing up, be sure to read the Cancellation Policy below.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find Swing Heroes requests?

When you log in to your Swing account and view open requests, you can find available Swing Heroes requests at schools near you by looking for the yellow “Swing Heroes” banner.

What assignment details can I see in advance?

You will only be able to see the following information in advance:

  • The date of the request (this does not change)
  • The minimum pay
  • Location is listed as “A school near you”
  • K-12 grade range
    • Swing Heroes requests are best suited for subs who are comfortable teaching any possible grade range. Also remember teachers often leave lesson plans for subs, understanding the sub may not be an expert in their particular subject.

Why can I only see certain details in advance?

Swing Heroes requests are posted up to 14 days in advance in order to address the growing challenge of last-minute teacher absences. When you accept a Swing Heroes request, you are committing to be available to teach on a given day. This enables you to work with nearby schools that need a substitute teacher at the last minute.

What does “guaranteed minimum pay” mean?

When you accept a Swing Heroes request, you will always earn at least the rate listed in the “guaranteed minimum pay” section. However, if the school you end up working for has a higher rate than the guaranteed minimum, you will get paid the higher amount.

Additionally, if there is no position available for you by 9:30 a.m. on the morning of your request, you will still get paid.

Cancellation Policy

  1. If you cancel a Swing Heroes request at any point after accepting, you will not get paid for the assignment.
  2. If you cancel an accepted Swing Heroes request within 48 hours of the start date or you don’t show up, you will not get paid for the request and you may be unable to accept future Swing Heroes positions.

We ask that you commit to filling the assignment you signed up for. Canceling after you are signed up for a school request or not showing up is a big deal for our schools, and puts them in a difficult situation where they are often unable to find a sub.

If your availability changes at any point, make sure to cancel the request on the platform as soon as possible.
