What do I need to do?

You will receive an email with a link to the Swing Reference Form.

Open the link and enter the contact information for the people you would like to list as your references. We require a minimum of 1 Professional References.

We ask for the following:

• Full name
• Email address
• Phone number (optional)
• How you know this person
• Their role
• The dates you worked together

Once you submit your reference's information, our team handles the rest.

How does Swing contact my reference?

We contact your reference by email. In some cases, we may also call them if clarification is needed.

All reference checks are completed online through a short and secure form.

Who should I choose as my references?

Choose individuals who can speak to your professionalism, reliability, and, if relevant, your classroom or school-based experience. These should be people who worked with you in a professional setting.

Good options include:

• Principal or Assistant Principal
• Classroom Teacher or Co-teacher
• School Administrator or HR
• Supervisor or Manager
• Lead teacher or grade-level partner
• Mentor teacher or coach

Family and personal references are not accepted.

If you have limited work history, you may use a faculty member, mentor, or someone who observed your work with students.

Do I need to contact my references before listing them?

Yes. Before submitting the form, you should contact your references and confirm they are willing to be contacted by Swing.

What happens after I submit my reference?

Once your reference completes the form:
• Our team will review the feedback
• We will notify you of any next steps

Can I see my reference's responses?

No. Reference feedback is confidential and shared only with Swing for screening purposes.

What if my reference does not respond?

We may contact you to provide an alternate reference.

Your set-up will be paused until we receive a completed reference.

Why does Swing require a reference check for 1099 roles?

Schools rely on Swing to provide substitutes who are professional, reliable, and ready for the classroom. Reference checks help validate experience and support student and school safety.

This requirement is consistent for all candidates in the set-up process.
